Steph says 2020 Finals was hard to watch, explains why he did – Comcast SportsNet Bay Area

If Warriors fans tuned into the 2020 NBA Finals, it likely was to watch 2015 NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala try to help the Miami Heat win the title.

But other than that, the Finals matchup between the Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers probably wasn’t much fun to watch for Dub Nation.

Steph Curry concurs.

“It was hard to watch, but I did,” Curry told Jeff Neubarth on a recent episode of the “Callaway Golf Podcast.”

When asked why he watched the Finals, Curry had a couple of justifiable reasons.

“It’s a little bit of everything,” Curry said. “It’s me missing the game and just being a fan of the game and just wanting to watch good basketball. It is a little scouting, in terms of what we need to go into next year to get back to being one of those two teams playing in the Finals. It’s a little nostalgia, too. We went five years in a row and I know the backdrop in Orlando was different, but it’s still the NBA Finals.

“And any basketball junkie, whether you’re a player or a fan, tuning into that, it’s good basketball and it kinda gets you going.”

Iguodala was denied his fourth NBA title, as LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the Lakers won the series in six games.

Curry and the Warriors have plans to return to the NBA Finals during the 2020-21 NBA season, though those hopes took a hit last Wednesday when Klay Thompson tore his right Achilles during a pickup game in Southern California.

But the Warriors’ front office pivoted quickly and traded for 24-year-old wing Kelly Oubre Jr. to try to fill Thompson’s void.

Are the additions of a healthy Curry, Oubre and No. 2 overall draft pick James Wiseman enough to get the Warriors back to the NBA Finals this season? The two-time NBA MVP hopes so because he probably doesn’t want to watch another championship series on TV.
